Garlic Mustard Facts
About our Project
This challenge is a culminating activity for our study or Michigan beaches. After studying beaches with other classes from all over the World at The Great Beach Exploration Project. we wanted a way that we could help improve the beach and natural area near us. After learning a lot about how destructive the invasive species can be to our natural areas, we decided that helping to pull garlic mustard was one small way we kids could help.

Success!
Thanks to the all of our volunteers who came out on the first Saturday of Summer Vacation to pull Garlic Mustard at the State Park.
The Flinsky Family was our champion but everyone who helped and learned from the DNR's Heidi Frei made a big difference today. We cleared over 30 pounds of the invasive species and found some deep pockets that we were able to keep from seeding. Garlic Pull Challenge
What it is: Third graders (well actually new 4th graders) from Blue Star Elementary and Bentheim Elementary Schools in Hamilton, MI will be joining the Michigan DNR at Saugatuck Dunes State Park on Saturday June 9th.
Teams of students and their families will pull the invasive garlic mustard plants from the woods that border the Lake Michigan shoreline. The amount of garlic mustard pulled will be weighed and teams will compete to see which one made the biggest impact in removing this "bully" from our beautiful natural area. Challenge Rules
What to wear. What to bring. What not to bring.
